Novena Schedule for Year 2008
Special Novenas
are held at St. Dominic's Church, Steiner & Bush,
San Francisco, California. Weekday Novena Masses are 8:00 a.m. and
5.30 p.m. Sunday Novena Masses are at 9:30
a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and Saturday's Mass is at 8:00 a.m.
The Shrine of St.
Jude also has a Mass each weekday at St. Dominic's at 5:30 p.m.
after which you can receive a blessing with the relic of St. Jude.

How to Make a Novena
Attend one of the
exercises at the Shrine for nine consecutive days. As
there are several services a day, choose the hour
most convenient for you, but you need not attend the
same service each day should another service at the
Shrine be more suitable on that particular day.
Follow the exercises as they are conducted. You
should, if at all possible, go to confession and
communion during the novena. If you can't go to
communion at the regular Novena Mass, you may receive
in your own church. Should unforeseen circumstances
make it impossible to attend one of the Novena
services, the novena prayers should be said at home
on that one day. Those out of town can and should say
the Novena prayers at home during the nine days. If
it is impossible for you to get to church because of
sickness or if you are hospitalized, then say the
novena prayers in your own home or in your hospital
room.

Devotees of Saint Jude
You participate in
the daily rosary and the devotions to Saint Jude held
at the Shrine each day.
Send your petitions at any time
with the request that they be placed at the
Shrine Altar and prayed for during your own
Novena, made publicly at the Shrine or
privately at home or in hospital room.
If you
desire a Novena of votive lights to be burned before the Shrine
during your Novena, send a contribution to
cover the expense.

Novena Prayers (Option One)
In the Name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious
apostle, SAINT JUDE THADDEUS, true relative of
Jesus and Mary, I salute you through the most
Sacred Heart of Jesus! Through this Heart I
praise and thank God for all the graces He has
bestowed upon you. Humbly prostrate before you, I
implore you through this Heart to look down upon
me with compassion. Oh, despise not my poor
prayer; let not my trust be confounded! To you
God has granted the privilege of aiding mankind
in the most desperate cases. Oh, come to my aid
that I may praise the mercies of God! All my life
I will be grateful to you and will be your
faithful client until I can thank you in heaven.
Amen.

that we before death may expiate all our sins by
sincere repentance and the worthy reception of
the holy Sacraments.

that we may appease the Divine Justice and obtain
a favorable judgment.

that we may be admitted into the company of the
blessed to rejoice in the presence of our God
forever.
The
following prayer to be recited by both priest and
people.
Saint Jude,
glorious apostle, faithful servant and friend of
Jesus, the name of the traitor has caused you to
be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and
invokes you universally as the patron of
difficult and desperate cases. Pray for me who am
so miserable. Make use, I implore you, of that
particular privilege accorded to you to bring
visible and speedy help where help was almost
despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great
need that I may receive the consolation and help
of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and
sufferings, particularly — (here make
your request) — and that I may bless
God with you and all the elect throughout all
eternity.
I promise you,
O blessed JUDE, to be ever mindful of this great
favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my
special and powerful patron and do all in my
power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.
Saint Jude,

your aid.

impious, courageously preached the doctrine of

St. Jude, who gloriously suffered martyrdom for

PRAY
O Saint Jude
Thaddeus: cousin of Jesus Christ, glorious
apostle and martyr, renowned for your virtues and
miracles, faithful and prompt intercessor of all
who honor you and trust in you, You are a
powerful patron and helper in grievous
afflictions. I come to you and entreat you from
the depths of my heart to come to my aid with
your powerful intercession, for you have received
from God the privilege to assist with your
manifest help those who almost despair of all
hope. Look down upon me, my life is a life of
crosses; my days are days of tribulation; and my
paths are strewn with thorns, and scarcely one
moment passes but is witness of my tears and
sighs. And withal, my soul is enveloped in
darkness, disquietude, discouragement, mistrust;
yes, sometimes even a kind of despair preys upon
my soul. Divine Providence seems lost to my
sight, and Faith seems to falter in my heart.
Overwhelmed by
these thoughts, I see myself surrounded by a dark
cloud. You can not forsake me in this sad plight.
I will not depart from you until you have heard
me. O hasten to my aid. I will be grateful to you
all my life. I will honor you as my special
patron, I will thank God for the graces bestowed
upon you and will propagate your honor according
to my power. Amen.
